The government plans to reopen gas-guzzling fertiliser factories after Eid-ul-Fitr when electricity demand will ease with the waning of summer heat, officials said Monday.
Several liquid-fuel run rental power plants will also commissioned shortly to boost overall electricity supply and allow gas supply to those affected fertiliser factories, said a senior energy ministry official.
Currently, four fertiliser factories remain shut to divert gas to power plants for electricity generation.
